PRAYER GUIDE FOR SEPTEMBER   WEEK # 4 (Prayer & Fasting)

Sunday  SEPT 24: PRAYER FOCUS: GODLINESS

“But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself…”  Psalms 4:3

A Texas woman acquired a chair once owned by France’s King Louis XIV. Visitors to her mansion could look at the antique, but a velvet rope across it forbad anyone sitting in the chair. It was set apart from the other furniture, priceless and precious. God places certain things under the “ban.” They are His alone. He shares the bounty of creation with us, but when He marks something for Himself, it is His exclusively. What an honor to be set apart for God! Those who’ve entered covenant with Christ have His identifying mark on them, and  belong to Him and no one else

Monday SEPT. 25: PRAYER FOCUS:  A PRAYER LIFE OR LIFE OF PRAYER

“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

We are commanded to pray all the time. Prayer to us should be as natural and continual as breathing.  “Do you ‘have a prayer life’—or are you living a praying life?” Think about the difference.

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!

Tuesday SEPT. 26: PRAYER FOCUS: DOING SOUL WORK

“And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:12

You may own a lot of valuable things, but you own nothing more valuable than your soul. It is of infinite value and of eternal worth.

So let me ask you today, are you caring for your soul as the precious gift from God that it is? Please don’t neglect it, but nourish it by spending time in the Scripture and by praising and worshipping your creator.

NOTHING YOU OWN IS MORE VALUABLE THAN YOUR SOUL.

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!

Wednesday SEPT 27: PRAYER FOCUS: NEED A BREAKTHROUGH?

“…Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”  Zechariah 4:6

Issues like family problems and financial issues can stop you in your tracks. Problems associated with an unholy mind can bring your spiritual growth to a standstill.

Obstacles like these and others are spiritual strongholds that Satan uses to keep you from God’s best plan for your life.

God can tear down those obstacles, because it’s impossible do it on your own. So today, if you have come to an obstacle that stands in your path, God is saying, “Listen to me. I will show you what to do.”  It’s time to stop trying to fix things and to start trusting him. Because that is the only way to really break through to victory in your life!

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!

Thursday SEPT. 28: PRAYER FOCUS:  MAKE PRAISE A PRIORITY

“My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:2-4

Have you ever wondered why the Scripture instructs us to praise God? Three reasons can be found in the verses above from Psalm 34.

First of all, praising the Lord encourages others.

Second, praising God naturally brings fellowship.

And last, praising the Lord gives you power for your day-to-day life.

God responds to your honest, genuine praise of Him. So I urge you to make praise a habit no matter what you may be going through!

Make a priority of praise regardless of your circumstances.

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!

Friday SEPT. 29: PRAYER FOCUSBREAKING SINFUL PATTERNS AND HABITS

HE who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

There are many churches these days that avoid talking about sin. It’s not a “feel good” topic. But sin is a critical topic if we want to be effective servants of Christ and to grow spiritually. God is at work to help you deal with the issue of sin in your life on a daily basis. You and I desperately need this because sin will remain a reality in our lives this side of heaven. But we can overcome.

We see this clearly in some of God's choicest saints. Men like Simon Peter and Paul admitted to the sin in their lives. But listen, sin was not a pattern in their lives! And that’s the difference that Christ made in their lives!

Will you let Jesus do the same for you? He wants to! Let Jesus break the sinful patterns and habits in your life!

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!

Saturday SEPT. 30: PRAYER FOCUSTHE PRAYER PROMISE

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

The verse is directed to “my people” – God listens to the cries of His children. He tells us to humble ourselves because He alone is sovereign and we are His servants. And we must repent.

Then and only then, God tells us, He will forgive our sin and heal our land.

The healing begins at home, within our families. Pray for your family and the families across the nation. Pray for revival!

In Philippians 4:8, Paul tells us to turn from the fallen world and look to God: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Remember to spend some time in fasting before the Lord!
